Confessions of a Mental Health Blogger
What is blogging?
I did so much research and came up with a few tips, but ultimately learned it’s really all about perspective, similarly to mental health.
I learned about different ways of structuring and wording things and what “works.”
But overall as much as I’d like to combine the information into a lump sum my Aspie brain has a hard time doing that so I’m just going to go with my takeaway is things only work if you’re willing to work it.
With all the information and influencer lifestyle being in demand it can be easy to allow yourself to get consumed in it all.
So what does a blog about blogging have to do with mental health?
Honestly, on surface level absolutely nothing lol, but diving deeper it goes back to my point about perspectives.
You can research and prepare all day, but when situations and experiences occur that challenge that, fear and feelings of anxiety are natural and can pass with processing.
I spent time researching and researching and still came up with a whole lot of notes about basically nothing. Now, don’t get me wrong all the information on the surface level was useful, but it’s like who wants surface level when I can be as deep as a mermaid?
Sometimes experiences occur to give us perspective.
It doesn’t mean we have to take all its energy on and allow it to consume or deter but simply an alternative perspective.
You see, sometimes we go through situations in life or if you’re like me you may live life in your head and sometimes feel like life happens to you.
And then you add on a layer of research or experience to your already filled plate and it is bound to overflow.
You can research all you want but no textbook can teach you how to live life in the moment. Nobody is a textbook.
I was going somewhere with this and then took a break and came back…
Did I mention they say I’m an Aspie?
Well if you don’t know what that is, everyone’s experience is different but I try to best define my experience of the more interesting symptoms of a mixture of like if ADHD and OCD had a baby.
I’ve managed to research and learn myself a bit and again come up with nothing lol since we’re forever evolving and adapting and so is the world. I actually didn’t even find out until just before dropping out of my doctoral program (that’s another fun story).
Anyhow, I say all this to say, sometimes the journey is unconventional and that’s okay.
This virtual reality world is not real life.
You can research and learn all day, but life is meant to be lived through the lens of your eyes and not some textbooks or words or even your head.
Life isn’t happening to me, it’s happening for me.
They say expectations lead to disappointments, but I believe that is only half true. I like to look at expectations the same way as I do as boundaries, vocalizing your needs. When we “expect” it may be because deep down there’s more to what we want and we may not have yet communicated that or even there may be the turmoil of our communication not fully being comprehended.
Either way, the comparison is the thief of joy and if we choose to do what the world expects of us instead of what we are expected to bring to the world, we do ourselves a disservice.
I hope you enjoyed a glimpse into my thoughts and intro to my first blog.
I’m still working on a name for it, check back for further thoughts on that.
