Employees Don’t Want To Work OR Don’t Want To Work For You?

Warning: The proceeding is a mini-rant discussing my woes with the mental health system and how they’re perpetuating some of their own problems.

I left the mental health industry as a working mental health counselor in hopes of systemic change.

Then the pandemic happened.

The only changes that were left for me during that were a strategic Win in my back pocket from successfully suing a mental health company and transitioning my career to systemic change to become a Holistic Business Coach/Consultant, Author, and Keynote Speaker.

Honestly, the mental health system let me down… continuously… personally, and professionally.

I could only imagine what clients with fewer resources could be feeling at similar crossroads with the system.

The structure of the mental health system is outdated and seems to be operating from a very … opaque point of view if you will.

It amuses me to hear all the higher-ups complain about how folks don’t want to work anymore.

Like seriously? With this inflation?

Is it that they don’t want to work anymore or that they just don’t want to work for you?

Because from my lens it can be very difficult to see through all the clouded stacks of logistics, documentation, and numbers as opposed to the ethical client care that was soooo stressed to many of us in graduate studies.

Or maybe let’s throw in some of those stressors on how to basically be this emotionless robot in the room with clients in hopes to show them that you’re capable of holding their emotions and theirs.

Did I mention it’s giving … robot?

It’s amusing, to say the least to see the chaos occurring because the higher-ups have been living life with their heads in textbooks for so long that they forget front liners are the ones in the field that actually have valuable knowledge and skillsets with HUMANS.

So many mental health companies have shamelessly lost touch with the human experience and it is ultimately creating divides within company dynamics, job roles, and class.

I began my career in the mental health system similar to many other budding mental health professionals with passion lighting the way and a firm belief in change and making a difference in the community.

Fast forward the clouded experience had me losing myself.

My mental health took a toll, physical health, and it got to a point of almost no return.

I was literally disassociating, abusing anxiety meds… popping them like skittles, and abusing oui’d just to pass the days.

When companies forget the most basic quality of you being HUMAN first, it makes it very difficult for someone to feel like they can truly flourish in that environment ultimately making them not want to work…. for you!
